The Guard Of Brook Hill Hold Strong To Win the TAPPS D3 State Title

Early Tuesday afternoon, Brook Hill was named the TAPPS D3 Baseball State Champions after defeating Bay Area Christian 9-2.

Bay Area Christian started the scoring off early in the top of the first inning. After two doubles from Owen Townsend and Jordan Thames, Coen Gonzales singled driving in the first run of the game. After the top of the first, the score was 1-0 in favor of Bay Area Christian.

After an error, and two walks from Cooper Schock and Luke Visser, the bases were loaded for Brook Hill with just one out. Coming in clutch, Braxton Durrett singled on a ground ball to left field scoring two runs. Lex Rich then came around to score the third run of the inning for Brook Hill making the score 1-3 with Brook Hill on top.

Bay Area Christian got one back in the top of the second as Owen Townsend drove in Brooks Marisco on a line drive single to left field, making the score 2-3 in the top of the second.

Brook Hill piled on 3 more runs in the bottom of the second starting with a 2 RBI double from Cooper Schock. Schock then came around to score on a Bay Area Christian error, leaving Bay Area in a 2-6 deficit after the second.

In the top of the third, Harrison DuPont and Jacob Newsom singled. However, Brook Hill Pitcher Blake Whitten was able to pitch out of this jam without allowing a run across the board.

Brook Hill scored another in the bottom of the third on a single from Dallas Clements bringing around Levi Visser to score. This made the score 2-7 with Bay Area Christian trailing going into the fourth inning.

After two leadoff walks from Jackson Lowry and Owen Townsend, Brook Hill Catcher Dallas Clements threw out Lowry attempting to steal third. After a 2-0 count, Brook Hill brought in Levi Visser to pitch. Visser threw two straight balls, walking the third consecutive batter of the inning. Visser then generated two pop-outs to leave the top of the fourth scoreless.

For the next 4 half innings, the scoring and base traffic halted. Brook Hill Pitcher Levi Visser only allowed one hit, and Bay Area Christian Pitcher Peyton Ardoin allowed none. However, Brook Hill ended the scoreless skid when Lex Rich drove in Cooper Schock on a line drive single to center field, and Braxton Durrett came around to score on a Bay Area Christian error.

After a two-out single by Jacob Newsom in the bottom of the seventh, Levi Visser struck out the next batter to secure Brook Hill the TAPPS D3 State Championship Title.

When speaking with Braxton Durrett, who went 1-3 with 2 RBIs, after his big win, he made sure to note that this State Championship would not be possible without the early and late night practices, and the leadership of both the new head coach Don English and the senior class.
