Carnage On Homecoming Night – Recapping Holy Cross’ Shutout Win vs JP2
Pure dominance.
This is the only way to describe Thursday night’s matchup between the Holy Cross Knights and the John Paul II Centurions.
On Thursday night, Holy Cross welcomed JP2 for another district matchup. Both teams walked in with completely different records, Holy Cross undefeated, and JP2 winless, and thats how they would walk out.
The Knights would start the night off when ‘25 ATH Patrick Ortiz got an interception and took it back to the house to quickly put his team up 7-0. Holy Cross would get a quick stop again and put some big points up when ‘25 Quarterback Gibby Alvarado hit ‘25 ATH Nick Hall for a 50-yard TD. The Centurions would struggle the entire first quarter and after big scores from ‘25 RB Daniel Perez, Nick Hall, and ‘25 ATH Marco Gomez, Holy Cross was up 34-0 after just the first quarter.
The second quarter saw more struggles from JP2’s offense and the Knights’ offense would extend the lead with a 7-yard TD from ‘25 ATH Issiah Rice. The last big play came from Gibby Alvarado when he hit Patrick Ortiz for a 39-yard TD. Patrick Ortiz would finish off the first half and his night, with a monster 3 interceptions, one of which he took for a touchdown, and a big receiving touchdown. The final score of the half came from ‘27 TE Aj Eguia when he took in a 1-yard TD run making it a halftime score of 55-0. The second half went by fast and after a 7-yard run from ‘28 RB Johnathan Arevalo, it would bring the shoutout win to 62-0. The Knights’ offense shined and even more so the defense, holding the Centurions to -26 total yards and only 3 first downs for the whole night. Holy Cross now stands at 7-0 and 3-0 in the district, and will now prepare to travel next week to Temple, Texas when they take on Dallas First Baptist in a highly anticipated matchup.
