Best of the Best: Looking at the top returners for the ‘27s in TXPS: Part 1: ATH’s + Special Teams

Before I start it is important to note that we don’t invite Ks, Ps, or LSs to the retreat (yet).

A while ago I was bored and I was wondering to myself “who is the best DB in TXPS?” to “Who is the best safety?” to “Who is the best in my class overall?” (I am ‘27 for my highschool) and that somehow devolved into hitting flow state and writing nearly on 50 pages of information on all of the positions with a bunch of other stuff over the span of about a month.

However, my magnum opus of writing, being published as 50 pages plus pictures in one article, is super impractical, so I split it up. This passion project got even stronger once I found out when the TXPS retreat would be, and that I could tie it into it for some good ole synergy. Although it did get delayed, it gave me even more time to workshop it, and since college coaches and TXPS come to visit during spring ball, I thought it would be best to get it ready for that time frame too, to help out the players who might have college coaches coming by.

But when I split it I decided that I would give some love to the people that help make the world go around in football: Special Teams so without further ado this is: Best of the Best: Part 1 of 3: ATH’s + Special Teams

Side note: any major transfers won’t be included since it’s returners-only.

Accolades: 2025 TXPS Media TAPPS D1 MVP, 2025 TAPPS D1 1st Team All State, 2025 TAPPS D1 2nd Team All State, 2025 TAPPS D1 District 2 MVP, 2025 TAPPS D1 District 2 1st Team All District, 2024 TAPPS D1 2nd Team All State, 2024 TAPPS D1 District 2 1st Team All District

Explanation: This guy has a case for WR and either DB spot, but I personally think he is the best all-purpose player in TXPS (and the other guys were better at their individual positions, in my opinion). He is the reigning D1 MVP, and it is easy to see why. Offensively, he lined up as a WR and had this stat line: 52 REC | 1023 yards | 12 TDs. He also had 111 rush yards with 2 TDs. Defensively, he moved around in the secondary but was primarily a free safety, recording 42 tackles, 12 PBUs, 7 INTs, and 1 pick 6 all in 13 games. But what really sells him to me as the D1 MVP is his special teams ability as a return specialist. He had 738 return yards with 5 TDs to go along with an already spectacular season. He is a bit smaller  at 5 ’10 170, but he is so fast (clocking in at a 10.6 in the 100), shifty, and is a chess piece for Concordia; so it doesn’t matter. He has great hands, an impressive jump, versatility, contested catch ability, shiftiness, and good ball instincts. There will be a college out there somewhere that’s gonna be very happy to have signed him in the near future.

Accolades: 2025 TXPS Media TAPPS D4 MVP, 2025 TXPS Media Small School Player of the Year, 2025 TAPPS D4 District 2 MVP, 3x TAPPS D4 1st Team All State (‘23, ‘24, ‘25), 3x TAPPS D4 State Champion (‘23, ‘24, ‘25), 3x TAPPS D4 District 2 1st Team All District (‘23, ‘24, ‘25), 2024 TXPS Media D4 Defensive Player of the Year, 2023 TAPPS D4 District 2 Freshman of the Year, 2024 TXPS Media TAPPS D4 State Championship Defensive MVP

Explanation: UTIL is for the best 2-way guy I haven’t put yet, who in George’s case can play literally any position he wants at any given time. I have watched George dismantle my boys in blue in person for 3 straight years. In his freshman year, he didn’t do well statistically in that game, but he still showed promise and had some highlight moments. In his sophomore year, he had turned into a super stud, and finally, in his junior year, he turned into a super duper stud. If it weren’t for Cooper Witten, I’d put him as MLB 1 for TXPS. He has had over 100 tackles each of his 3 seasons, and he has this stat line for a career on defense (50 games): 430 tackles, 35 TFLs, 10 sacks, 5 INTs, 9 PBUs, 4 FF, 7 FR. Offensively, his role has grown over the past 3 years, and he is coming off a 1,000+ yard rushing campaign as a RB and wildcat QB. This is his career offensive stats (50 games): Passing: 93/140 | 870 yards | 9 TDs | 4 INTs. Rushing: 162 CAR | 1212 yards | 13 TDs. Receiving: 20 REC | 264 yards | 3 TDs. He is smaller for an LB at 6 ‘1, 230, but is incredibly strong, has intense ball smarts, can blitz, can cover the field quickly, can cover the pass, stuff the run, has good hands, hits like a freight train, and he is the reigning D4 MVP. (He also has balled out vs bigger, better competition)

Explanation: If I want a guy to go out and hit me a game winner, then I’d call up the guy whose name sounds like a villain in a Bond movie. His kicking prowess on PATs and FGs is crazy considering how hard he can kick. His kicks are long, go far, and he is accurate on them. Look out for him heading into his senior season.

Explanation: A criminally underrated part of BCS’s recent run of dominance has been excellent special teams play headed by their kicker (and unironically the best ATH on our team) Samuel Seabolt, the 2 time D4 STPOTY. We don’t record our kicking stats well and they say he only had 1148 on 60 attempts with 32 TBs for a 53% TB percentage based on that stat line (no but seriously look at his game log, which was 9 out of 13 as is, for everything but TBs. I absolutely do not believe he had that few yards, TBs, and attempts, I mean 5 kickoffs for 6 yards vs Legacy Prep when he kicked it minimum 7 times all to at least 10, Really?) but he has been kicking out of the back of the endzone for 3 years and I watched him kick 7 deep TBs in a row vs Hill Country with no wind. He has a golden leg (his nickname), is an excellent tackler on kickoff returns, he kicks incredibly good onside kicks when Coach Black feels like getting aggressive, and recovers most of the kicks Pat McAfee style as well. All in all I think he is the best KOS in TXPS.

Explanation: I might just be getting one gamed by this guy, but the big Aussie from Rosehill is nice at punting. During his first game vs BCS (the only one I was present for) he had some dingers. He averaged 39.1 per punt whilst also being able to tackle in punt coverage. All in all just a good punter for a team that is on the up and up in D4.

Explanation: Another instance of me struggling to find a good one but I think I found a diamond here with the number 1 LS Texas and 18th in the nation. He is also a solid DT and OL. Since he is so big he very easily can block on kicks, snaps clean and fast, and he moves down the field well for special teams tackles. He will go D1 and I am very sure of it.
